Canadian Collaborating Centres for Injury Prevention (CCCIP)
What is CCCIP?
The CCCIP is a collective of provincial centres across Canada, which discusses and acts on common challenges and joint ventures to reduce and control injuries and to enhance the safety of the population. For the most part, these centres operate from a provincial mandate for research, surveillance, program evaluation and, for some, education and communications. Program delivery is not a focus, rather these centres strive to serve those engaged in community-based, regional and provincial programming. All ages, injuries and settings are included. This small active working group shares information based on lessons learned including common jobs, common problems, and common solutions in the administration of IP Centres and the foci listed below. Representatives from Health Canada are regular observers.
What does CCCIP do?
By building and maintaining a network of centres across the country this collaborating initiative hopes to:
- Create consistency and reduce duplication in injury issues and initiatives.
- Enhance the ability of regions to learn from one another (in areas such as evaluation, surveillance and research).
- Act as a conduit for input and a dissemination route from both the national and regional perspectives.
- Work collaboratively on injury prevention issues from a regional and provincial perspective.
- Support the development of a critical mass of injury prevention stakeholders that together can make a significant impact on injury prevention.
- Influence the national perspective.
How does it work?
Membership is drawn from Directors or Managers of Centres who can commit to an ongoing involvement and attendance at meetings. Members must be able to pay their own airfare, accommodation and teleconference costs in order to participate. Face-to-face meetings are held twice a year, with additional meetings conducted by teleconferences on an as needed basis to move ahead collaborative projects. Where possible, meetings are held in conjunction with other related meetings/events. Meeting host/chair and minute taker rotate between centres with each meeting or teleconference.
